The soaring volcanic tuff and basalt orange walls of this fantastic Oregon State Park have some of the best and most celebrated climbs in the America, offering both sport and traditional climbing across a wide range of grades. In fact Smith Rock was the birthplace of sport climbing in America, with a host of cutting-edge routes. Areas covered; Aggro Gully, Cocaine Gully, Morning Glory Wall, The Peanut, The Dihedrals, Christian Brothers, Phoenix Buttress Mesa Verde Buttress, Monkey Face, The Northern Point, and The Lower Gorge.
The start of the guidebook gives a good introduction to Smith Rocks Sate Park, including all local amenities information such as where to stay, what time of the year to climb, and the rules of the Park. All routes are shown on clear colour photo-topos along with detailed route descriptions. As there is often a mixture of traditional and sport climbing on the same buttress, red lines are used to indicate traditional routes and blue lines for sport routes.
