This is a comprehensive guidebook covering the trad rock climbing to be found on the Shetland Islands – the most northerly islands in the UK. The rock climbing on Shetland offers a great variety and plenty of adventure from volcanic sea cliffs and sea stacks, to granite outcrops on hillsides and inland gneiss bouldering. The climbing season here is generally from April to September when the weather is warmer and the sunlight almost extends to 24 hours during June.

The guidebook covers over 50 crags including the spectacular and huge sea cliffs of Eshaness, Foula and Nibon – 50m sea cliffs with an abseil descent. Some of the more recent developments have been establishing friendlier and more accessible crags and bouldering venues – all covered in this guidebook. The crags are spread out all over the islands with crags facing all directions, so it is always possible to climb out of the wind.

The guidebook covers over 800 routes, all of which are shown on colour photo topos, along with a description. For each crag there is a description of the style and type of climbing to be found, access information, a location map, and grid reference. Further information given includes the rock type, aspect and if the crag is tidal. Published in October 2016, this is the first dedicated climbing guidebook for the Shetland Islands.
