This selective guidebook describes the best mountain, crags, sea cliff and sport climbing in southern Scotland. Volume 1 (of 2) describes the crags up to the natural demarcation of the Great Glen. It includes routes in Isle of Arran, The Arrochar Alps, Isles of Mull & Iona, Glen Coe & Glen Etive, Ardgour, Ardnamurchan, Ben Nevis & Glen Nevis, Central Highlands, The Cairngorms, and Easter Ross. Around 1,700 routes are described, with the majority at VS and above including many high E Grade routes.

The layout is clear with access and logistics for each area described, along with a brief history, and clear maps. There are overview photos of crags that show the approach and descent routes. All the routes are illustrated on colour photo topos along with detailed route descriptions.
