This is a selective rock climbing guidebook covering the multi-pitch routes found around Annecy in the French Alps.  In total it covers 20 areas, all within an hour’s drive of Annecy.  The guidebook describes 780 multi-pitch routes (1,800 pitches) on the magnificent limestone cliffs in this area.  The routes described are across a wide range of grades, up to F8a, and are generally well bolted.  It covers 3 main areas, these being:

  1. Secteur Lac D’Annect – An area close to the east shore of Lake Annecy.
  2. Secteur Bornes – An area to the south of Lake Annecy.
  3. Secteur Bornes – An area further east of Lake Annecy but no more than an hour’s drive away.

All the routes are shown on colour photo topos, along with appropriate descent information.  For each area there is access information, and a location map to get you to the bottom of your chosen route. Symbols indicate the style of climbing to be found, altitude, crag orientation, and climbing gear required.

Published in April 2022 this guidebook is in French text, though the introduction to each crag is in English text including the access information, with a large amount of the information also conveyed by symbols.  The guidebook is packed with great action shots which give a 'flavour' of the area.

Further east of Annecy there are many other multi-pitch rock climbing areas that are covered by 2 further guidebooks. The Bornes Aravis rock climbing guidebook covers an area to the south of Cluses and includes routes around Grand Bornand and Bonneville. The Giffe, Risse, Foron rock climbing guidebook covers an area to north of Cluses and around Morzine.
