Terradets - This stunning limestone gorge is dominated by the La Paret de les Bagasses buttress, which is 500m high. Though some routes do go the full length of this big wall the majority stop at a ledge roughly half way up. Here there are over 50 equipped and semi-equipped routes ranging from 5 to 7a+. The rock climbing is essentially on steep slabs with small holds, always demanding good footwork, strong fingers and a clear head.
There are also some single pitch sports climbing here mainly at Els Isards, which has many quality mid grade routes and the stunning Paret de les Bruixes. Known as Les Bruixes this overhanging bowl of limestone rock has many tufas and juggy roofs, mainly at F7 and above.

Vilanova de Meia - This is a popular gorge, which offers good quality sports climbing up to 200m high on good quality limestone rock. There are over 50 bolted and semi-bolted routes from F4+ to F7b on the main big wall of Roca dels Arcs. As well as the long multi-pitch routes there are also plenty of single and 2-pitch sports routes across all grades within this beautiful gorge.

Montserrat - Situated 35Km north west of Barcelona is the monastery village of Montserrat, which is surrounded by towers and pinnacles of conglomerate mountain rock. There are hundreds of routes here offering both sports climbing and trad rock climbing, many of which are multi-pitch routes. There are 2 rock climbing guidebooks for Montserrat; Montserrat Vertiente Norte, which covers the area around the monastery and the campsite; and Montserrat Cara Sur, which covers the southern towers and faces. The main bouldering areas in Catalunya are situated between Barcelona and Lleida, including the sandstone boulder field of El Cogul, which is one of the largest bouldering areas in Spain.  All of these areas offer some excellent bouldering that can be climbed virtually throughout the year, except during the summer.  Find out more…

Serra de Prades (Costa Daurada) - Approximately 100Km south west of Barcelona is the coastal town of Tarragona. Inland from here are the Sierra de Prades mountains, where there are 11 crags with over 1000 routes (information extracted from the Rockfax Costa Daurada guidebook to the area). The main crag is La Mussara, which alone has over 250 routes at an altitude of 1000m. Throughout the area there are a good range of grades on good quality limestone, climbing primarily single and 2-pitch routes. Also in El Bergueda region of Catalan there is some rock climbing near Berga. Generally the rock climbing is single or 2-pitch routes on good quality limestone rock.

Barcelona - Within a 30-minute drive south of Barcelona are a series of limestone crags with over 200 routes. The routes are mainly single pitch routes on bolted limestone.
