Climbing at Montserrat
Situated 35Km north west of Barcelona,
Montserrat quite simply offers some of the best multi-pitch
sports climbing in Spain, with its many towers and
pinnacles of conglomerate mountain rock, providing a fantastic
playground for rock climbers. Many of the routes are between
200m & 300m long, characterised with hanging belays, as
the routes are generally steep with very few ledges.
There is a great variety of rock climbing
to be found at Montserrat from single pitch to multi-pitch
routes. There are over 1,700 routes here with a good mixture
of sports routes and traditional routes. With its nature of
long multi-pitch routes at Montserrat it is advisable to use
twin ropes as many of the dissents are via abseil. Twin ropes
are also ideal for the traditional routes along with a full
rack including nuts and cams. |
