This is a selective rock climbing guidebook to southwest England, which spans the full spectrum of climbing styles and grades; from committing multi-pitch sea cliff routes, to easy-going inland sport climbs. The rock ranges from the moorland and sea cliff granites of Dartmoor and West Penwith, through the geological weirdness of North Devon and Cornwall, to the multitude of limestone rock on parade in Devon, Somerset, Avon and the Wye Valley.  Although it’s a selected guidebook, it contains many routes on lesser-known crags giving great coverage for all climbers wanting to visit this fantastic holiday area.  

The following crags are included in the guidebook:

  • Wye Valley: Wynd Cliff, Wyndcliff Quarry, Symonds Yat, Shorn Cliff, Ban-y-gor, Wintour's Leap.
  • Avon: Avon Gorge, Portishead, Goblin Coombe, Split Rock Quarry, Fairy Cave Quarry, Uphill Quarry, Brean Down, Cheddar Gorge (introduction only).

  • The Lizard: Trewavas Head, Coastguard Cliff, Pen Olver, Bass Point, Black Head.
  • Inland Devon and Dartmoor: Chudleigh, Torbryan Quarry, Haytor, Hound Tor, Chinkwell Tor, Lucky Tor, Bench Tor, Sheeps Tor, The Dewerstone
  • Torbay: Berry Head, Churston Quarry, Daddyhole, Anstey's Cove, Long Quarry Point


In total 1,771 routes are described across a wide range of grades.  All the routes are shown on colour photo topos, and each crag has detailed access information and maps.

Published by Rockfax in December 2022 (revised 2nd edition) it has over twice the number of routes than previous edition, and includes the usual set of inspirational action photographs.
