The Schweiz Plaisir West guidebook describes the rock climbing and sport climbing in the Western Swiss Alps and a small amount of the French Alps around Lake Annecy. There is a great range of climbing to be found in this area at varying altitudes that mean it is possible to find somewhere to climb throughout the year.

The guidebook is split into 5 areas, which are; Haute-Savoie in France around Lake Annecy and Cluses; Bas Valais-Vaud around Martigny and Sion; Oberwallis around Zermatt, Brig and Fiesch; Gastlosen-Frutigland to the south of Bern; and the area between Interlaken and Grimsel.

In total 62 separate crags are detailed, covering routes at grades up to F6c. The style of routes range from single pitch sport routes to long alpine style multi-pitch routes many 100’s of metres long. There is also a variety of different rock types to climb from granite and marble, to limestone, serpentine and quartzite.

For each of the 5 main regions covered there is an overview map along with a description of the general character of the climbing to be found. For each of the 62 crags there is a location map, along with useful information such as altitude, when the crag is in the sun and the style of climbing to be found. Further information is given on the type of equipment required per route, from the type of traditional gear to the number of quickdraws for the sport routes.
