The Schweiz Plaisir West Volume 1 guidebook describes the rock climbing and sport climbing in the Western Swiss Alps between Fribourg and Goschenen. The guidebook is split into 3 sections covering the following areas:

1) Fribourg to Frutigland – An expansive area to the south of Bern including the impressive walls at Gastlosen and the alpine routes on the Bire near Kanderstag.
2) Interlaken to Meiringen – Interlaken is widely considered as having some of the best sport climbing area in Switzerland, including Hintisberg and the fantastic multi-pitch routes near Engelhorner.
3) Susten, Grimsel and Furka – These 3 Swiss alpine passes in the heart of the Alps provide a wide range of single and multi-pitch routes on gneiss, quartz and granite rock.

In total 52 separate crags are detailed, covering routes at grades up to F6c. The style of routes range from single pitch sport routes to long alpine style multi-pitch routes many 100’s of metres long. All the routes are shown on detailed topo diagrams.

For each of the 3 main regions covered there is an overview map along with a description of the general character of the climbing to be found. For each of the 52 crags there is a location map, along with useful information such as altitude, when the crag is in the sun and the style of climbing to be found. Further information is given on the type of equipment required, from the type of traditional gear to the number of quickdraws for the sport routes. GPS co-ordinates are also given for the parking areas.
