This is a comprehensive guidebook describing the rock climbing at Calanques that are located just outside of Marseille, in southern France. The Calanques is one of the largest rock climbing areas in France, and provides excellent sea cliff climbing, ranging from single pitch routes to long multi-pitch routes up to 250m long. The vast majority of the routes are well bolted though on some routes traditional gear is required, especially on the multi-pitch routes.
The guidebook describes 1,110 routes mainly up to F6c, of which 418 are multi-pitch routes and 15 are traverses, including some Deep Water Soling (DWS). Routes harder than F6c are included though an obligatory grade is also given, which is generally limited to F6b. This is especially true of the multi-pitch routes where a point of aid is used to bypass the crux move above this grade.
All the routes are shown on a mixture of colour topos and colour photo-topos, with French sport grades used throughout. The guidebook also uses many excellent colour aerial photographs that show these stunning crags in all their glory. Published in September 2013, this guidebook is in English text only.
