Shelf Road Rock Climbing Guidebook

This is the comprehensive guidebook covering all the sport climbing to be found at Shelf Road situated south of Denver, near the town of Canon City, in Colorado.  These limestone cliffs and canyons are an excellent sport climbing area with predominately single-pitch routes on vertical to slightly steep rock.  The guidebook covers over 1,200 routes between 5.4 (F4) and 5.14 (F8c).  It includes the popular areas of The Bank, Dark Side, The Vault, Cactus Cliff, Spinney Ridge, The New Gym, and The Gym.  Shelf Road is set high in a desert environment that offers year round climbing though the best time to climb is from early autumn through to late spring.

The start of the guidebook has a good overview of Shelf Road including a detailed map, with useful information about camping, where to stay in the different areas and what to do on rest days.  At the beginning of each area there is a description of climbing with its aspect and style.  All the routes are shown on colour photo-topos, along with a route description and the number of bolts on the route.

Published by Sharp End in December 2020, this Shelf Road guidebook is the revised 3^rd edition and includes more than 100 more routes than the previous edition.
