Tarragona Climbs Guidebook

The new Tarragona Climbs guidebook is now out, which describes some of the best sport climbing in Catalunya in the Sierra de Prades Mountains.  Buy Tarragona climbs from the Climb Europe shop. Here is a brief description of this new guidebook.

This is a selective guidebook that covers the rock climbing and sport climbing in the Sierra de Prades Mountains that rise sharply behind the coastal city of Tarragona to the south of Barcelona in Catalunya. These predominately limestone and conglomerate crags are at an altitude of between 500m and 1000m and provide some of the best sport climbing in Catalunya.  It is possible to find good conditions at any time of the year, though autumn through to spring is a great time here for a rock climbing holiday.

The guidebook describes the following 11 separate rock climbing areas which are, Siurana, Margalef, La Mussara, Montsant, La Riba, Els Cogullons, El Penitent, Mont-ral, Vilanova de Prades, Arbolí, Llaberia and Tivissa. In total over 2,500 routes are details across a wide range of ranges from F4 to F9a that will suit all levels and styles.

At the start of each crag there is a comprehensive introduction detailing the aspect and style of the climbing to be found.  Detailed access information and location maps, including GPS co-ordinates for the parking areas are also given.  All the routes are shown on high quality colour photo topos, along with route name, length and grade.

Published in October 2012 this Tarragona Climbs guidebook is written by two local activists Pete O’Donovan and Dani Andrada with all the text in Catalan, Spanish and English.
