35-November-Sicily-GuidebookThe new edition of the Sicily rock climbing guidebook has just been published that covers all the rock climbing and sport climbing areas on the island of Sicily. This 4th edition of the guidebook in a little more than 4 years shows how much the world of rock climbing has evolved during this period.  Also included for the 1st time are chapters dedicated to bouldering and Deep Water Soling (DWS) opportunities on Sicily.

The Di Roccia di Sole guidebook covers many 1,000’s of routes across 98 different crags on Sicily in the following areas:

  1. San Vito Lo Capo near Trapani. Here there is a great coastal cliff nearly 4km long with hundreds of quality limestone single pitch routes mainly in the easy to mid-grades (half the routes are F6b+ and below).       There are also a mixture of bolted and trad multi-pitch routes between 150m to 400m long.
  2. Around Palermo. Rising behind Palermo is the mountain of Monte Pellegrino that offers both single pitch and multi-pitch routes up to 200m long.
  3. Crags in the northeast of Sicily near Messina. Here there are 11 separate limestone crags, some of which offer multi-pitch bolted routes up to 150m long.
  4. Crags in southeast Sicily. Situated between the towns of Siracusa and Ragusa are over 30 crags that offer mainly single-pitch sport routes across a wide range of grades.

All the routes are shown on either clear topo diagrams or colour photo topos. For the multi-pitch routes there is a detailed description of each pitch, an explanation of what gear is required for the route, plus descent information.  At the start of each crag there is a description of the style of climbing to be found, a location map, access information, plus a QR code for the parking areas to download onto your smart phone or tablet.  This guidebook is in English text throughout.
