The Cote d’Azur area of southern France offers a great variety of climbing in some stunning situations. This includes the magnificent Verdon Gorge with its committing approaches, and the sea cliffs of Calanques near Marseille. There are numerous multi-pitch crags such as Sainte Victoire (near Aix en Provence) and Massif del’Esterel (near Frejus). Toulon is known as the sunniest city in France where you will find a number of great crags dotted around the city. Add in the popular winter venue of Chateauvert, the less well known crag at Chateaudouble, plus crags around Nice and Monaco, this area has an amazing amount of climbing to offer.
The Rockfax Cote d’Azur guidebook has just been re-published and it covers all of these areas. It describes over 2,700 routes that are shown on clear, colour photo topos we now expect from a Rockfax guidebook.
