Walking in Greece

Greece is an excellent holiday destination that brings images of a sunny climate, rich culture, stunning landscapes, picturesque villages, and Mediterranean islands.  For walkers and hikers, Greece offers a landscape full of mountains, spectacular gorges and ridges throughout the mainland plus great coastal locations on the many Greek Islands.

The mountains of Greece

Greece is a very mountainous country with many mountains over 2,000m high.  Most of these peaks are in a line running down the eastern side of the mainland, with the exception of Mount Olympus (Olympos) that is located on the eastern coast north of Athens.  The three highest peaks in Greece are as follows:

  1. Mount Olympus at 2,918m high
  2. Mount Smolikas at 2,637m high
  3. Mount Voras at 2,524m high
