The following includes information about travel, accommodation, and the best time of the year to go rock climbing in Finale Ligure.

Travel - Getting to Finale Ligure to go rock climbing is very easy, with several major international airports close by. The nearest is Genova airport, which is only a 30 minute drive away. However both Turin airport and Nice airport (just across the border in France) are relatively close and very practical. The crags at Finale are spread out over a 10 square kilometre area, so it is advisable to hire a car.

Accommodation - Finale is a very popular tourist area and therefore there is a massive choice of accommodation, ranging from expensive hotels, budget hotels, self-catering apartments, B&B, to camping.

Climb Europe has information on some apartments in Finale Ligure that are suitable for rock climbers.

Average daily peak temperature for GenoaClimbing season - The best time of the year to visit to go rock climbing in Finale Ligure is in the autumn and spring, though it is possible to climb throughout the year if you choose your crag carefully. Generally though it is too hot in the main summer months and in the winter a cold northerly wind can blow, though there are enough crags that are sheltered from this wind to make a trip worthwhile.

The best information is in the Finale Climbing guidebook, which at the start of each sector/crag describes the best time to climb there. This guidebook can be bought from our shop.

Outside of Finale Ligure there are also many other excellent rock climbing areas as shown on the map above.

OltreFinale - Towards the French border there are a series of valleys running into the hills behind the sea. Over the years these have become known as the OltreFinale crags, which as the name suggest are the alternative crags to Finale Ligure. In total there are 5 valleys, 80 climbing sectors and hundreds of routes across a wide range of grades on solid limestone rock. The climbing is mainly single pitch sports routes though there are some bolted multi-pitch routes up to 170m long and many excellent boulder problems.

Muzzerone - Situated between Sestri Levante & La Spezia this area offers a wide choice of fantastic sea cliff rock climbing. The routes range from single pitch routes on slabs to steep and overhanging multi-pitch routes across a wide range of grades. Here the rock climbing is on very good quality limestone rock that has recently been re-bolted.

Andonno - Close to French border is the village of Andonno, which is another great rock climbing area. There are over 200 routes here, mainly single pitch with some multi pitch routes up to 90m long on good quality limestone. Just outside the village there is also a bouldering area.

Rest Days - There are many other activities to do in Finale other than rock climb. The area is also famous for cycling with many off-road tracks. Being located by the sea there are also great beaches and superb water sports, such as windsurfing. For just lazing around then the historic village of Finalborgo offers quaint scenery, shops, and of course plenty of bars and restaurants.
