Getting to Paklenica

Travelling independently it is possible to gets flights daily to Zagreb, either via Croatia Airlines or National Carriers such as BA.  From here interconnecting flights can be made or hire a car.

Alternatively Rijeka airport and Trieste airport to the north or Split airport to the south are good options, though this will involve a longer drive to Paklenica.

Accommodation for rock climbers in Paklenica

Paklenica rock climbing guidebookThe type of accommodation required will depend upon your group size, budget and preferred location of either Starigrad (1Km from Paklenica) or Zadar (46Km from Paklenica).

  • Camping – Always the cheapest choice and there are many campsites in Starigrad, which are open all year round.
  • Villa - Always the most pleasant and luxurious option. If you are in a large group (6+) and are traveling outside the main holiday season (June to August) then hiring a villa can be surprisingly cheap. Villa’s are available in Starigrad, with a greater choice available in Zadar.
  • Apartments – These suit slightly smaller teams or couples. Again these are available in Starigrad, with a greater choice in Zadar. To view apartments selected by Climb Europe, that are suitable for rock climbers, click here.
  • BB & Hotels –There are several Bed and Breakfast places (called Pansions) and small hotels that are usually associated with restaurants in Starigrad. All the larger hotels are in Zadar.

Walking in Paklenica

Paklenica National Park is a hiker’s paradise, combining craggy limestone gorges, caves, dense pine forest and meadow-carpeted alpine uplands.  Hiking is the best way to explore Paklenica (cars are forbidden) as there are nearly 200km of paths and trails throughout the park that are well sign posted, plus a mountain hut.  Find out more…
